Knowing you bra size

Hi people!!

So today, I want to make sure you all know how to measure your bra size!! No more guessing. To be able to look good, you have to have the right support. When shopping for a bra, you will note that bras are sized using numbers and alphabets. The number represents the band size and the alphabet represent the cup size. Knowing your bra size is not as hard as many of us make it out to be. Before you get started, there are a few things that you should take note of:

  • Avoid wearing a bra. If you are going to wear a bra, wear one that does not have an under wire and that has no padding.
  • Get a someone to help you. When you want to get accurate measurements, it is always advisable to get someone to help you. When doing it yourself, you are more prone to errors.
  • Stand in your most natural and comfortable posture. If you do not do this, you are likely to get the wrong measurement.
How to do it:
  1. Using a tape measure, measure (in inches) round your rib cage right under your bust. Ensure that the tape measure is level at the back and the front. Add 5" to your measurement. That is, if you measured 29", after adding 5", you will get 34".
  2. Measure around the fullest part of your bust loosely. Ensure that the tape measure is level at the front and back. Subtract your band size from this measurement. For example 37"-34"=3". The difference is your cup size. How you may ask? if the difference is  0-1"= A cup; 2"= B cup; 3"= C cup; 4"= D cup; 5"= DD cup

Yes ladies, it is that easy. No more bad fitting bras. Get yourself that right fit.

Have a lovely week!!

Predicting the weather

Hello everyone!

Today was a funny day. I was going to school and called a friend before I left the house. She tells me that it's raining so I decide to carry a rain coat, gumboot and a sweater. I regretted this decision because the weather was hot!! I have never been able to predict the weather and this is becomes a real problem for me. I at time wear light clothes for it to be so cold or I wear very warm clothes and then it's super hot. So I used my brains.

Instead of getting caught off guard wearing clothes that just aint working for the weather, wear clothes that suite any weather. I usually wear a top that is good for warm weather and carry a light weight sweater that can keep me warm if the weather changes and can fit in your bag. I also like to carry a leso with me at all times. In cold weather, you can wear it as a scarf or a shawl.

As for the shoes, I bought a pair of leopard print gumboot from Bata that I love. However, sometime it doesn't rain and I end up wearing them in the sun. But, there are shoes that I love even more then my gumboots, my old school sleakers!! :-) I love them. They are great in any weather. Now, if you're the type that loves to give your self a height boost, a good, comfortable pair of wedges is the best way to go. they won't get your feet wet (assuming the water level is low).

With these tips, your sure to look good no matter the weather. No sundresses in the rain. :-)

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Song of the week

I know this has nothing to do with fashion...actually... :-) it does. Beyonce's style evolution. I'm just so bright!! Back to the point... I started exams yesterday and this is the song that has kept me going. The lyrics are so powerful. I hope you all enjoy it as much as me.

EXAMS!!!

Hi people!!

It is the time again...exam time. This time round, I like the fact that I haven't pilled my work until the last minute and yet, I have a lot of work!! There is a unit where we are making half scale garments. The lecturer required us to do a two piece garment with a sleeve and a collar. I'm going to be doing an all white outfit. Hope I get an A!!!

WHERE DO YOU DRAW THE LINE?

This past weekend was Safari 7s weekend!! I had a great time supporting Kenya, even though we didn't win the tournament. I'm still very proud of our 7's team. However, what caught my eye(and I believe the eye of every one else on Saturday) were some girls who do promotional work. They caught my eye because these girls were wearing bikinis!! Yes, bikinis at a rugby tournament. I do realize that they were being paid to promote a product(which I, up to now, have no idea what they were promoting), but I wonder, is it really worth it?

I know that everywhere in the world there are prominent people and celebrities who are paid to wear certain things like clothes, jewelry, shoes and even to drive certain cars, but where do you draw the line? Well, I think that the people paying those girls to dress in bikinis did get the attention of the crowd, but they forgot one thing, to promote the product. All we saw were girls in bikinis, but what were they trying to promote?

Long vs Short

Hi people!!

The past week I have seen many people with really long nails. I know at times long nails are really pretty and can even be fun but I don't think they are convenient. I mean, when your washing clothes, it's so hard. Your nails end up breaking and then you soon have 6 long nails and 4 short ones. I think we all have to step back and look at the real picture.

If you are the type of lady who does a lot of washing and cleaning on a regular basis, then make sure your nails allow you to go about your work without any issues. I personally don't like long nails because of the amount of dirt that they collect in such a short time. That constant digging under my nails just isn't my way of passing time. I'd rather be playing Angry Birds.

Whether you are a long or short nail lover, one thing we must do is clean our nails and take care of them. Nails need a whole lot of TLC. If you are one who loves to polish your nails, then you know that you need to get them done every once a week. I got my nails done about twice at  the nail bar at Westgate (this was mainly because it dries quickly- I'm not so patient) spending 1,200/= . I realized that every month I would end up spending 2,400/= and about 400/= on fare. I'm not earning a salary so that for me was too much. That is when I decided to do it myself. So every week or two I would buy a bottle of nail polish. Now I have a collection of nail polish and I really don't have to buy any for a quite a while.

Take care of your nails and make sure that you stay in budget.

Yes, I'm still here

Hi my lovely people!!

I am so sorry for the disappearing act. I have been so busy with school and S.A.F.E. it is so sad that I haven't been blogging as much as I wanted to.

Now that it is raining so randomly, I have decided to get my hair braided. Unfortunately for me, my head really doesn't suite cornrows, yet I love them so much. So I'll be looking for a way to funk up braids. Watch this head!! :-D

P.S.
I'll be posting the photos of S.A.F.E soon.

UV tattoos

Hi people!!

I really love buying deals, especially the mocality deals so every day I make sure I visit mocality, rupu and zetu to see what deals are on. Today's deal on mocality are tattoos, and the one that caught my eye, UV tattoos. UV tattoos are tattoos that are only seen under Ultraviolet or black light.

Now, there are some things you need to be aware of before you go out and get a UV tattoo. There have been reported cases whereby people have reacted to the ink causing minor itching or even dermatitis. Some UV inks contain phosphorus which some tattooist consider a health risk and it might not be as invisible as you may think. At times, the scaring from the tattoo will not heal causing it to be "visible".

I would suggest that if you are planning to go get a UV tattoo. Make sure that you weigh out the pros and cons. Also get a little mark done and see how you react before getting a really big one.

NTV vs KTN

Hi people!!

For some time now I been paying a lot of attention to how news anchors dress. I must say, NTV has won!! I love the way that their anchors colour coordinate and that they always, look so professional. As for KTN, they have failed (in my view). A few months back the anchors began to dress in casual clothes over the weekend. During the weekdays, the anchors, especially the women, would wear blouses, that I feel, are not up to par.

I feel that the person presenting the new should dress in a way that viewer will take them seriously. If you are reading the news in a leso dress, I feel like I'm listening to the lady in the market telling me stories of her neighborhood. I am just unable to take you seriously. I know in fashion we tell people to express themselves in the way they dress and stand out, but there are certain places to do this. I mean, you wouldn't go for a corporate cocktail event in shorts, old school sneakers and a baggy sweater.

It is also very important for the stylists to be able to be cautious about the lighting. I feel like this is one thing that they fail to do. The lighting affects how the colours of the garment will appear. Especially if the fabric is of a silk or satin nature (especially for men's ties and pocket squares).

Let us not be so eager to present the news that we are not cautious of what our presenters are wearing.

Online shopping

Hi people!!

I have been looking for a bag, a very uniqu one in a bright green or red, and it is very hard. I got tiered of walking around from shop to shop to look for a bag so I decided to look for one via the internet. I must say, you can find better things via the internet, but there aren't many websites to do online shopping. However, I have found  a few bags from Bagalicious: http://www.bagalicious.co.ke. Which one do you like?

For the past few months, I have been splurging a lot on nail polish. I bought a shade of brown that can actually be compared to a nude colour. It's so cool!! :-D Nail polish that blends.

Beyonce is pregnant!!

One long happy weekend!!

Hi people.

On Sunday, it was my 21st birthday!! :-D I am 21!! We also had a small graduation and birthday lunch.

During graduation, I got bored and began taking pictures of shoes that the ladies graduating were wearing. Then there were those who decided not to zip up there graduation gowns in order to make sure their outfits were seen!!

The Students Art and Fashion Exhibition- S.A.F.E

Hi people!!

My two friends and I have been working on a fashion and art exhibition to showcase students talent. I noticed that fashion and art students don't have many platforms to showcase their work.

I have participated in three fashion shows and I could only showcase one item each, well, this time round, fashion designers can showcase more!! You can showcase up to 5 pieces!

I also found that there are fine art students who don't have the platform to exhibit their work. Well, here is your platform.

If you are those who are studying, for example, economics and you are gifted in sculpturing, please, feel free to come and exhibit your work.

The only requirement is that you must be a student! We are also looking for models, hair and make-up artists, interior designers, accessory designers and many more.

Beauty is pain

Hi people.

I recently bought a pair of wedges that I had wanting. I wore them to town, but I was in so much pain cause they were really pressing my toes. Lucky for me, my mom (I was meeting her in town) had an extra pair of flats in the car. When I removed the shoes I was shocked to discover that I had gotten blisters!! I had to ditch the shoes, but I'm still determined to wear them again. this time round, I'll put Elastoplast on my pinkie toes and get me some Kiwi Smiley Feet.

Women and shoes.

Hello people!!

While on the internet a few days ago, I came across a movie-documentary trailer, 'God Save My Shoes' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Dk66xz8te0&feature=channel_video_title. It's about women and their love for shoes.

I am relieved that there will be a documentary about women and shoes. Maybe I'll finally understand why women must have so many pairs of shoes!! Yes, I do not understand what it is all about. I've never really been a fan of buying shoes. I buys shoes when I need them and I like to wear flat comfortable shoes. Yet, my one year old niece is in love with shoes! Yes, she is 1. She will wear any shoes she can find (whether they fit or not) and every shoe she sees, she wants.Maybe through this documentary, I'll finally be able to understand it.

Ladies, why do you buy shoes? Why must you have so many pairs?

Mutumba goes online

Hi people!!

Today, while on facebook, I saw an ad about mutumba clothing being sold on the internet-http://www.totallytumba.com/. Now, I never thought I would ever see this happen, but I wonder, where do they get these clothes from? Do they buy the bails like all the other hawkers? Do they shop around places such as Gikomba, Toi and Ngara for these clothes? Or do they sell their own already used clothes?

What do you think?

The seamless panties

Hi people!!

The other day I was shopping when I came across the seamless panties. I was told that they help prevent the dreaded pantie lines from showing. I decided to see for myself so I bought just a pair.

The seamless panties are a gift from heaven!! No more unwanted pantie line!! I truly believe that they are from here on out a necessity. Every woman should have but a pair. I am truly tired of seeing women from work in extremely tight trousers that reveal more than they should.

Good-bye pantie lines!! :-D

It was a busy day and after that, I was unable to sleep! By the time I got home I was so exhausted, but it was a an amazing day. I cannot wait to finally reveal my first five piece collection to you all. Have a good day everyone. And a fabulous weekend.

The Maasai Shuka rocking the runway

Hi people.

Two days ago I was going through the June 2011 issue of the US Elle magazine and that is when I discovered that Louis Vuitton wasn't the only one using the Maasia shuka on the runway. Thakoon has featured the Maasai shuka as well in his Fall 2011 collection. Thakoon has dressed First Lady Michelle Obama and I wounder, do you think Michelle Obama will be rocking this look any time soon?

Well, it's official, the Maasai shuka is the worlds latest trend. I wonder how long it will last on the runways.

Kasha Online Magazine

Hi people!!

Last night I decide to google a fellow fashion blogger Nancie Mwai. I then found that she is the editor of an online fashion magazine called Kasha Magazine. It is a must read magazine, and for its first issue, it is amazing!!! Go to http://reader.kashamagazine.com/ to read it. You just have to read it. The content, the fashion and the pictures are all amazing. I feel so proud of this home grown magazine and the amount of fashion it has.

I hope you all enjoy the magazine as much as I did and still am!! As for the rest of the day today...it is so gloomy but I'm determined to have a good day. Going for rugby with the girls. Kenya vs Uganda.

Have a good day people and keep warm!!

Louis Vuitton and the Maasai shuka

Hi people!! Hope you are all well. Now for those of you who don't know (and must be living in Pluto), Louis Vuitton featured a whole lot of Masai shuka in the Menswear S/S 2012 collection. I feel that it is such an honor for us as Kenyan's to have such a huge label feature our fabric. Bringing so much attention to us as African's and saying that there is a lot that they can get from us. We are more than just a 3rd world country. We are no longer the next big thing. We are the big thing. Now can we begin to capitalize on this platform that we have been given by Louis Vuitton and others like Marie Claire who stated, "Nairobi is the new New York" and Black Fashion Magazine, Paris edition, who featured Lucy Rao's dress on the cover.

Kenya, it is our time to rule the fashion world!!
